March 2026 Tax Calendar: Key Deadlines for Individuals

March 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

For our service industry clients—whether here in St Louis or elsewhere—March 10 is a critical compliance date. If you received more than $20 in cash and charge tips during February, you are required to report this income to your employer by this date.

You can use IRS Form 4070 or a detailed written statement containing your signature, Social Security number, and tip totals. This reporting allows your employer to withhold the necessary Social Security, Medicare, and income taxes from your wages. If your base wages aren't high enough to cover these taxes, the uncollected amount will be flagged on your W-2 (box 8), and you will be responsible for paying it when we file your annual return.

March 16: Schedule Your Tax Appointment

We are officially one month out from the individual filing deadline. If you haven't booked a time with us, please reach out immediately. Our schedule is reaching capacity as we navigate the final stretch of tax season.

Don't wait for perfect records. Many clients delay booking because they are missing one or two forms. It is much more efficient to meet now, prepare a draft, and create a checklist for the missing items. This approach ensures we have time to identify potential tax savings or issues before the rush.

If you suspect you'll need more time, remember: an extension to file is not an extension to pay. We should still calculate a preliminary tax liability so you can pay by April 15, minimizing unnecessary interest and penalties.

Note on Holidays and Disaster Relief

Standard IRS rules apply regarding weekends and holidays: if a deadline falls on a non-business day, it moves to the next business day. Furthermore, if you live in a federally declared disaster area, tax deadlines are often postponed automatically.

You can verify your area's status using these resources:
