Essential Tax Deadlines: February 2026 Schedule for Individuals

Stay on top of your tax obligations this February 2026 with our concise guide. We cover key deadlines for estimated tax payments, tip reporting requirements, and W-4 exemption updates.

February 2 - Deadlines for Those with Estimated Tax Payments

If your last estimated tax payment for 2025 was not settled by January 15, you have the option to file your annual return (Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR) by February 2. Doing so and clearing any dues by this date will spare you from late payment penalties on your final installment. If unable to meet this date, ensure filing and payment by April 15.

February 10 - Tip Reporting for Employees

Had a tipping month in January with more than $20 in tips? It's crucial to report these earnings to your employer. The IRS Form 4070 is one way to do this, but you can also use a personal statement including your signature, full name, contact and social security details, along with the tip totals and the period they cover.

Employers must deduct FICA and income taxes from reported tips, potentially leaving uncollected taxes if wages alone are insufficient, indicated in box 8 of your W-2 form. Outstanding taxes will then need settling with your annual return.

February 17 - Renewal for Withholding Exemption

If you claimed a tax withholding exemption on your W-4 last year, a renewal submission is required to your employer by February 17 to maintain this status for the new year.

Consider Weekends and Holidays

Deadlines falling on a weekend or federal holiday extend automatically to the next business day.

Disaster Area Considerations

Residents in federally recognized disaster zones should check for potential filing extensions. For updates, visit: FEMA and IRS.
